So the rain continues, the wind is wild and strong and it’s not just our homes and countryside that are bearing the brunt of this terrible weather. Our skin is suffering too.
We can’t improve the weather but we can minimise the damage this horrible weather does to our skin. Here are three quick natural skincare tips to keep your skin looking great in this nasty winter weather.
It’s tempting to turn the heating up when it’s cold, windy and raining outside. But we all still need to venture outside whether it’s a walk to work, walking the dogs, or doing the school run. The change in temperatures can play havoc with our skin. Even if you’re graced with normally beautiful and radiant skin; changes in temperatures can make skin dryer, skin can sometimes get flaky, sore and be a little sensitive.
And it’s all too easy to think winter equals dull and lack-lustre skin. Something that we can’t change until the weather does. Thankfully there are a few top tips that we can all implement to restore radiance to an otherwise dull and dreary looking wet and weary winters day...
Exfoliate...
Once or twice a week use a natural exfoliator to slough off dead, dull and dreary looking skin cells. Look for a natural product that contains fruit extracts – these can help speed up the renewal of healthy new skin cells and gently rid your skin of dead, dull and flaky skin. Don’t think a scrub has to be harsh either. Some facial scrubs contain rougher, uneven particles that feel like they are really doing their job but can sometimes be a bit too severe and can scratch your skin and damage it.
Jojoba peeling grains are totally spherical – which means they are gentle on your skin – but no less effective! They are my exfoliating grain of choice and it’s precisely why I chose to include them in my facial exfoliator, Scrub Up. When you exfoliate regularly you will find that all the creams, serums and face oils you use will be better absorbed into your skin and work more efficiently and effectively too.
Hydration is Key…
Central heating keeps us warm but it can cause our skin to dehydrate. So keep hydrated and your skin will be grateful! Hydrate from the inside as well as the out. Drinking plenty of water, coconut water and herbal teas to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. Hydrate your skin by using serums and moisturisers that contain Hyaluronic Acid to plump up skin and help it to retain moisture.
Feed Your Skin…
Make fresh fruit & vegetables (organic if possible) a key part of your daily diet. Packed full of vitamins and minerals, they will nourish your skin and feed it. With skincare, look out for face oils that contain repairing and nourishing natural & organic ingredients like Rosehip Oil, Argan, Evening Primrose, Macadamia or Pumpkin. Oils containing natural Vitamin E, Q10 and Vitamin A can help repair skin and protect against future damage too.
So as we prepare ourselves for more gale force winds, heavy rainfall and generally disruptive winter weather, add some stability to your skincare with these simple Winter Weather skincare tips. At least your skin will look bright, even if the weather doesn’t!
